Technologically Challenged

I'm learning something about myself this week: I'm technologically challenged. Oh, it's not that I don't know how to make use of current technology. It's that I don't know how to function without the use of technology. My calendar is kept online. I write up my daily "To Do" lists with the aid of an online time manager. Weather forecast? Online. Favorite TV show? I watch via internet. Christmas shopping? I do as much online as I can.

Thus now that our cable service has become virtually non-existent (leaving our cable internet crawling below dial-up speed and our cable phone mostly inoperable) I'm in a lurch. No connection to the outside world save dialing my cell phone or stepping out the door. No shopping, tv watching, blog reading, list making. I'm stuck, stuck stuck!

How did I do all these things before the arrival of my laptop less than one year ago? And how is it that I've become so dependent on the internet? Is there any hope for me overcoming this addiction? I'm in withdrawal here, folks. And the cable guys won't be here until Saturday. Eeek!

I'm throwing this post out there into the bitstream to see if it will float. It's my message in a bottle to you all. I'm stranded here. Don't forget me. And send help if you don't hear from me in another week.

Are you going to the Eve of Christmas Eve service at Bolingbrook High? Of course, with your tech troubles, by the time you receive this message, it would have been faster to send a letter via the post office. Anyhoo, I hope to see your family there!

Ugh. I can resonate--except for all systems are still go, here, at the moment (fortunately). I do wish I weren't so addicted, though.

Craver - we'll be there with bells on (okay, not literally - just figuratively). I'll be back in the nursery for at least the first bit getting things settled. We'll try to meet up with the Craver family sometime that evening, though.

Jenn-you've made the first step:you admitted your addiction. I wouldn't wish my cable malfunction on anyone, so glad to here all's working your way.

Isn't it funny how we've become to dependent on the internet. How did we function without it? I still like using the phone book to look up addresses - usually faster than my husband looking it up on 411 or mapquest.

Just take a few deep breaths. I'm sure you'll be all right.

I just love your blog posts... and so true. I feel your pain - I can't imagine going a day without my laptop and the internet. It's sad. Wish it weren't so, but I too have become too dependent.

Michelle-I survived. Thanks for your concern. : )

Ryan-Glad to hear you love my posts. I happen to love your radio station (and so do my kids). So thank you, thank you, thank you.

To Everyone-I'm back online! No bad phone connections, no sluggish internet. Whoo hoo! Now time to get shopping (after I catch up on a little tv...and email...and blog reading). ;)
